How do I know my solenoid valve is the problem and not the pump?

If the pump hums and you get pressure at the steam wand but little or no water through the group head — or the machine dumps everything into the drip tray — the 3-way solenoid is the usual suspect. A failing pump sounds labored or rattly and affects steam and brew equally. Our troubleshooting guide at help.kanencoffee.com walks through the checks.

Will this fit my Barista Express?

This assembly fits the BES870XL Barista Express. If you have a different Breville model, email service@kanencoffee.com with your model number and we'll confirm the right part before you order.

Do I need special tools to replace it?

A basic screwdriver set and pliers cover it. The main care points are unplugging the machine, letting it cool completely, and keeping track of the small fittings. If you'd rather not open the machine, we service Brevilles at our Berkeley shop and take mail-in repairs.
